Somewhere Between Psychotic and Iconic

Blouse- Uniqlo (similar)
Black and White Floral Skirt- Forever 21
Shoes- Oxfords
Body Chain- Similar
Rings- Vintage
I’ve been taking a much need break from being in front of camera, just to figure out somethings regarding my career, school and lifestyle. However, I thought it was about time I posted this look I wore about three weeks ago before going to the Brooklyn flea market on Saturday afternoon. If you never knew this about me before, I’ll be the first to tell you that I love vintage shopping whether it be at a flea market or from thrift store. Just the idea of purchasing an item that has become exclusive and unique to its buyer is such an awesome concept to me…I’ll try to snap a collection of pictures whenever I get go to thrifting again.
I wore a black button up collared blouse that I snatched from Uniqlo (the cotton is to die for soft!), what’s strange is that I almost never shop for anything in Uniqlo mainly because it’s not quite my aesthetic. However, I went in there with a friend and came out with this blouse. As per usual, I tucked the blouse into a floral mini skirt, for a bit of a preppy attire. Since the black of the blouse was a tad bit flat photographic wise, I chose to wear my favorite body chain for depth and more interest in what could easily be a plain outfit.

Summer Bliss

Summer weekends in Brooklyn seems like perfection in my eyes. The open air, small restaurants and the people makes it all feel worth while
Band Tee- Forever 21
Pants- H&M
Sunglasses- Thrift
Necklace- Vintage from Jamaica
Sorry for the endless scrolling for this post, but deciding which ones to post was extremely hard because a lot of the frames came out so well hence my indecisive personality came kicking in.
This post is filled with all the elements that I love in one of my typically everyday outfits…black and white, band tee, great pair of sunglasses, awesome jewelry and comfy shoes. I realized how much I haven’t posted a look wearing a band tee in such a long time (funny enough I wear a band tee at least once a week),  however one weekend I decided to get snapped wearing this perfect Johnny Ramone tee  that I got really cheap at Forever 21 about a year ago.
I know this isn’t quite the typically “Summer look” but, sometimes I can’t help but wear my dark elements no matter what season it is as long as the material is lightweight and allows me to breathe without sweating like a pig in the heat of the Summer. Lately, I’ve been wearing a lot more of my vintage jewelry that I’ve had for years because I realized one day how much I began to neglect them for some of my newer ones…so the necklace I’m wearing is one I got from this really cool vintage store back home in Jamaica about 6 years ago and surprisingly still kept it after all those years! I have no idea why it took me this long to style it here on the blog but I’m glad I finally got to share it because it’s such a unique piece and goes pretty well with the overall look. A little pop of colour in my sunglasses was necessary to bring a little life to the overpowering black and white aura of this look.

Search & Destroy (Style Alien x 9th & Elm)

“Handmade and Independent Fashion Designers”-

The beauty about Brooklyn, is that you can find a great photography composition sitting right there waiting for you at any giving time. While waking around Williamsburg, Brooklyn one Saturday, I stumbled upon a stranded car that recently exploded. The imagine was so good that many photographers stopped by to snap a shot of it whilst I on the other hand, saw it as an opportunity to shoot this collaboration post with the online store 9th Elm.
“Free Spirit Top”- 9th & Elm
Pants- Zara
Hat- Tilly’s
Necklace- Vintage

If I’d have to describe this look, it would be a merge between tom boyish girl and a bohemian lover. Every now and then, I like to put on a good pair of pants even during the Summer and these pair are my favorite that I scooped up during Zara’s mid year sale that they have going on right now. They could almost pass for harlem pants but still makes for that pants that’s perfect for almost any occasion depending on how its styled.
I decided that I’d pair it this time around with this awesome  sunflower crochet top that I received a few weeks ago from 9th & Elm…they’re perfect! I’ve literally been obsessing over creams, white, lace and crochet all Summer so it may come as no surprise that I absolutely love this top. To give some contrast to the cream of the top, I added my brown panama hat which complimented the look pretty well and also shield me from the scorching sun of that Saturday.
Check out 9th & Elms for yourself, they have such a wide variety of things all at an affordable price. Plus, whats so unique about them is that most of what they sell are handmade products from independent designers! how awesome is that.
Hope you had a lovely start to your week, I have lots coming up for this week 🙂

Electric Avenue

Taking my usual all black attire with a Summer approach.

Top- Nasty Gal
Short- Similar
Shoes- Forever 21
Necklace- Jamaica

I finally back with a new post and I couldn’t be more happy to share this graphic black and white ensemble to kick off the week. In the early stages of blogging, I’d always wear graphic and band tees…I still do but not as much as I would at one point. What intrigues me with this top is the marble effect where the white details are printed, which somehow reminds me of lightning.
I paired the top but tucking it into one of my favorite pair of shorts right now. Though the shorts is pretty much a classic black shorts, the touch of lace around the hemline really brings something interesting  to the look and is perfection to me since I’ve been so obsessed with lace all summer long.
For me, adding that touch of color through my accessories help to elevate the look a little without overpowering the beauty of the top. Just a quick update with me, I recently started a new internship so I’ve been super busy fitting in “fun time” in my schedule but I’m making it work as best as I can…I’ve been doing a lot of exploring in Brooklyn and have been documenting it so I’ll be sure to post those photos here on my blog very soon. Hope you all have a lovely week!

Caged Into You: The Style Alien x Michal Golan

Dress- Chicwish
Shoes- Nasty Gal
Necklace- Michal Golan
So this is part 2 of my Michal Golan collaboration, to see part 1 click>> here
This is pretty much the complete opposite of the first, with a more dark and mystery vibe going on. I’ve had this dress for months and loved it so much but the occasion never really came along for me to wear it so it was just stuck in my closet hiding in the back somewhere with all the rest that I once convinced myself that I’d wear someday.
I finally mustard up the courage to take this “little black dress” for a spin one Sunday afternoon for dinner at one of my favourite restaurants on the Upper East side of New York. I love that this dress is extremely loose fitting and I really don’t mind that its a trapeze shaped because it’s summer and who really wants to wear a dress that sticks to your skin like hot glue?…I know I don’t. Possibly my favourite element to this dress is the cage like neckline that reminds me of a slightly the more detailed version of the Deandri’s harnesses that I use to wear about a year ago. Since receiving the evil eye ring from Michal Golan, it hasn’t really left my finger! I just love the design and you can never really go wrong with evil eye jewelry…I’d have plenty if it was up to me…In fact, I’ve been gushing over these ones also from Michal Golan>>Turquoise Freshwater Pearl Bracelet , Angular Evil Eye Necklace and this! Angular Evil Eye Necklace. Make sure to check them out!

Dreamer Girl: The Style Alien x Michal Golan

Necklace- Michal Golan
Dress- Forever 21
Michal Golan is a New York based handmade jewelry company whose aim is to produce unique and consciously made jewelry. If you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know that I’m a huge jewelry fanatic but what drew my attention to this company so much is their middle eastern colours and the level of attention to detail put into creating these jewelry are beyond. They’re made with mostly with semiprecious stones, glass beads and Swarovski crystal, and is the type of jewelry that can pretty much be worn with anything whether dressed up or down. The necklace I’m wearing for this look is from one of my favourite collections from them called “Metallika”. Each of the pieces in this collection are literally breathtaking!, inspired by Medieval and Victorian jewelry.
In continuing my quest to be a bit more feminine for this season, I chose to style my necklace with a off-white maxi lace dress that I can’t seem to get over. When I saw this dress in Forever 21, I kind of had to do a double take because it’s so beautiful! I’m not usually the type to wear maxi dresses mainly because I don’t think I’m tall enough to hinder the dress from dragging on the floor…in which case I could just wear heels but I prefer maxi dresses wore simplistic with flats. I have tones of looks coming up later this week so hopefully in between packing out in my new apartment I can get a chance to post it on here. Have a great day!

Safe Haven

Top- Express
Skirt- Zara
Necklace- Vintage
About a few weeks ago I wore this feminine inspired look to hang out with a good friend of mine and this top was perfect for the occasion mainly because it was so sunny and beautiful outside and wearing something so lightweight and delicate seemed just about fitting for me. Thanks to a sale at Express, I was able to score this crochet tank top that has the most beautiful embroidery detail to it. To go with the overall look, I wore jewelry pieces that could accent the whole feminine idea I have going on.
Today’s my first official day of Summer and I couldn’t be more excited to explore New York like never before plus I’ll be moving in a few days so I’m interested to see where my new shooting spots will be. Have a great day!

Broken Bells

Casual spring day.

Sweater- H&M
Skirt- AMI Clubwear
Scarf- Vintage
Shoes- UNIF Holy Grail
Evil Eye Ring- Michal Golan

What I love most about spring is that, you can mix both warm and cool colours and it’ll still portray a great look. Since the Spring season started, I’ve been trying my best to stay away from all black looks…mainly because we had such a long and miserable Winter here in New York and all I wore then was all black from head-to-toe. So, incorporating for colours for this season shall be my main aim.
For this look, I kept it pretty casual in a lightweight pull over sweater by H&M. I don’t typically like wearing too much florals but the great thing about the florals on this sweater is that its not really overbearing and the placement hits in just the right spots. Since this look could have quickly turned into and black and white combo, I added a bold element of surprise by wearing this lovely vintage scarf that I’ve had since forever. Right now I’m in the middle of packing all my things in boxes and it’s so funny how I found so many things in my closet that I thought I had lost forever. This scarf happens to be one that I thought I had lost…well, it reapppeared one day and I knew I had to incorporate it in my look somehow before it turned into Summer and got too hot to wear.
For accessories, I decided to go with a bold statement necklace, possibly one of my favourite necklace of all time…mainly because there is so much history and a whole backstory on how I even got the necklace in the first place (good time in Jamaica). I’m also wearing one of my newest edition to my jewelry family, Michal Golan’s evil eye pendant ring. I’ll give more details on the brand on a post coming up later on this week so stay tuned for that.

Sporting a very casual look on a Spring day

Trapeze Cami- Express
Boots- UNIF

On spring day when I wake up feeling lazy especially Monday morning, I like to wear an outfit that is easy and doesn’t take up too much time. Firstly, black and white is always my first instinct, its classic, does the job and a great combo. For this look, I wore a beautiful white trapeze cami from Express which I really love because its lightweight and great for hot days plus the embroidery detail on the hem is just pure perfection. Since it was a little windy, it only seemed right to paired a long sleeve buttoned up top and treat it as a cardigan for a more casual look. I opted for pants and boots because surprizingly I didn’t feel like being in a skirt (I’m always wearing a skirt). I could see myself pairing this Express top with so many things this Spring so I’ll be sure to share those looks with you when the time come.
Hope you all had a great weekend and I wish you nothing but good things for this week.

Velvet Crop Top- Necessary Clothing
Vest- Forever 21
Trousers- Zara
Sandal- Nasty Gal

So I hate using the phase “business casual” because it could have such a broad meaning and can get very confusing. However, I’d like to think of this look as a more casual attire that is the perfect amount of “dressed up” while still being very laid back. I love men’s inspired looks so sometimes in my outfits, I’ll take inspiration from men’s garments and twist it in a way that works well for me.  I also managed to pull my hair back in a sleek bun, mainly because I was feeling too lazy to deal with it, but it ended up coming out good surprisingly. I’ll most likely wear a look like this to my internship or simply just to school, the latter was what I actually did.
To make this look less “serious”, I added jewelry of course. I wore both my favourite choker and a gypsy inspired silver necklace that I randomly bought in an NY boutique while cruising around the city. I’ll be doing a full jewelry post very soon as requested, and I also have a giveaway coming up so stay tuned for that!
